I'm spending some time on the Long Beach Peninsula with my family this week. This morning at the North Head Lighthouse, my dad Roger and I had 3-4 SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATERS. One was especially close and even landed with the gulls for several minutes. Conditions were great and windless as storms were still far off in the distance. It was a cold 35 degrees.

In addition, we had a Horned Lark, 5 Brown Pelicans, 3 Marbled Murrelets, 20 Heermann's Gulls, a movement of 3,000 or so Pacific Loons (continuous throughout our watch), and just fun seawatching for us westsiders.
