Hello Tweeters,

Watching my backyard birds has been fun these snowy days. Here in
Covington, WA we've had a nice flock of evening grosbeaks at the feeder for
the past several weeks which is a little different for us. We normally get
them only in the spring. The other bird that seems to show up in the yard
ONLY when it snows are the fox sparrows. Sure wonder where they go when
they're not here???? The little Annas, 4 of them, have been very active at
their feeders. One little male remained on the feeder as I was switching it
out with another feeder in my efforts to keep from freezing up. Now that
it's above freezing, and the snow's melting I haven't seen as many--hope they all made it...

I, too, noticed the fox sparrow, gold-crowned and other birds standing on
just one foot in the snow--obviously minding the cold. And seeing the
varied thrushes in my daughter's high-bush cranberry bushes in Maple Valley
was great. We had a couple of varuieds plus a hermit on bare ground under some
large fir trees when we were walking on Wednesday.

The two handsome coyotes who trotted across the deep snow in our yard in the
middle of the morning were a treat!
