Greetings Tweeters,
Yesterday my brother and I birded some in Grays Harbor County. Among the most notables were Palm Warblers (3), and the numbers of Eurasian Collared Doves, Greater White-fronted Geese, and Trumpeter Swans. We birded areas around Keys Road, Brady Loop, Devonshire Rd, Hoquium STP, K Street in Hoquium and Ocean Shores. We located 2 Palm Warbers at the base of Damon Point, and 1 at K Street. We found 122 swans at Brady Loop, all that we could ID were Trumpeters. Seems to me there has been a recent influx of numbers into the area. Although Collared Doves are no longer particularly noteworthy in the area, we were impressed (or depressed as the case may be by the numbers). There were over 20 (29 a week ago) at the NE end of Brady Loop, 25 along Pt Brown Rd in Ocean Shores, and a few in Hoquium for a total around 50. Also we noted a fair number of Greater White-fronted Geese along the coast with 5 groups of 20 to 40 from K Strret to Ocean SHores. These seemed like significant numbers for this late in the season, but perhaps not... Oh, and anyone travelling from Devenshire Road to Friends Landing may want to be on the lookout for a juvenile Red-Shouldered Hawk, which may or may not be in the area (very brief and lousy views at best).
Cheers and Good Birding,
Bill Shelmerdine, Olympia
