Last night the Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group
(http://www.hcseg.org)/x756.xml) announced seven candidate designs for
the Union Estuary Project. The main variables are how much dike will be
removed (from about 750 feet to all of it) and how much excavation will
be done to create low, medium and high salt marsh. The missing sections
of the dike will be replaced with a concrete foot bridge.

I asked if the designs would be available for comment on their web site
and was told they would be available in two weeks. The final decision
will be announced in four weeks, November 3rd, 2010 at 7:00 pm, at the
barn at the Farm at Water's Edge.
