Subject: [Tweeters] Scrub Jays in Olympia

Yes, there was a record I recall (from a CBC?) for WSJ in Bellingham when I was looking at the distribution from Olympia northwards a year or so ago.

As they are near the north end of their range (which is often interesting as fauna and flora often differs near the edge of their range) how do they differ from, say, Portland (or further south) birds?

I never posted but there did seem to be a nesting pair on the eastside of NE 45th and 99. I watched them for a couple of days doing nestbuilding (moving nest materials around) and trying to cache/uncache nuts in "grow bags" on some apartment balconies. So they may be starting (or have started) up a colony in that area.

Final "interesting" fact: there is a colony of WSJ in Cambridge, England. Not wild. They're research birds for work on corvids (particularly intelligence, communication and tool making work that's done there). Did they appear on this weeks Nature?

Of course there is one on the Vancoucer, B.C. RBA and that has been around for a year. I was quite surprised to see two at Point No Point last week.
