Hi Tweets,

In the 1980's or very early 1990's, there was an *extremely* late-nesting
Pied-billed Grebe on the ponds at Jericho Park on the west side of Vancouver
BC.

One doesn't often see unfledged young grebes being fed by an adult in early
December and the question on our collective birder minds was whether they'd
survive long enough to be included on that year's Christmas Bird Count,
which could have been a local first of some kind for those who like local
First CBC records. They actually became pretty famous to the birders who
frequented Jericho Park. And seeing unfledged PB young swimming past a
snow-covered bank in December was certainly a new one for me, I can tell
you...

The breeding was possibly a triple-breeding year attempt as described in the
following paper by Christian W. Gronau, *Triple Nesting record for
Pied-billed grebe in British Columbia*, found here:

And, no, I don't think the juvs made it.
