September is the month for large turkey vulture
numbers, so don?t forget to look up. Thanks for
all the reports last month (and always).
Following is the report for August 2010 for
Washington, British Columbia, and Oregon:

04 ? 1 at Legacy Marsh, Lantzville, B.C.; 1 at the Maplewood CA, B.C.
05 ? 1 at Government Meadows; 1 at Naches Pass; 4 near Windy Gap
06 ? 1 over the Carnation-Duvall Road roundabout; 2 at Scatter Creek WA
07 ? 1 in a backyard in Spanaway; 11 west of
Enumclaw ? 7 sitting in a farm field, one on a pole, and 3 soaring
08 ? 1 soaring over Konnowac Pass at Moxee; 6
north of Stanwood being mildly harassed by a redtail
09 ? 9 in a deadish tree at Hyw 203/Carnation
farm road; 2 over Central Park/Hyw 12; 2 over Satsop; 1 over McCleary
11 ? 1 at Black River NWR; 1 at Mima Mounds NA
14 ? ?several? near Yelm; 1 at Camas
15 ? 1 at Linley Valley, Nanaimo, B.C.; 7 at Camas; 1 west of Spokane
17 ? 1 southwest of Olympia
18 ? ?several? in the Eatonville Town limits feeding on a deer carcass.
20 ? 1 at Theler Wetlands; 4 soaring over Reecer Canyon
21 ? 4 over Zigzag, Oregon; 8+ soaring in Skamania County
22 ? 1 at Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo, B.C.
23 ? 1 soaring over Ridgefield?s River ?S? Unit
27 ? 4 circling over Lexington exit in Cowlitz
County; 4 between Elma/Ocean Shores
29 ? 1 at Neck Point, Nanaimo, B.C.; 1 circling low near Westport
30 ? 1 over Ridgefield NWR

Many of the reports mentioned that the birds were
heading south so they are on their way. As usual,
some of the one bird reports are from messages that don?t mention a number.
