There were two Vireos foraging in the yard this morning. One was a Warbling Vireo. I think the other was a Cassin's Vireo, also briefly glimpsed on 8/31, as was the Warbling Vireo.
The mystery vireo had very noticeable white eye-rings and lores. The head appeared gray; it had yellow sides and light gray breast and belly. It was feeding in a pine tree when seen. I got one photo. It shows a dark line going from the beak to the eye that I don't see in the Sibley illustration of a Hutton's Vireo. The Audubon Breeding Bird Atlas shows that there was a confirmed Cassin's Vireo nest at one time in the block where I live.
Either Vireo would be new for the yard list and a new life bird for me.
