Hello all,
After birding the Walla Walla River delta all morning we checked Hood Park for migrants - a few warblers but nothing unusual. We then stopped at McNary NWR HQ in Burbank. There is a "birding spur" trail that goes up from the blind west of the buildings. Around 2:45 we watched a warbler going through the thick brush - kept following it around then finally had great looks - a first fall female Canada Warbler. The necklace was noticeable though faded. Bright lemon yellow from throat to the bottom of the belly with a white vent. Dark dorsal surface. Striking complete white eye ring with dark eye. Mostly silent but did chip a few times. Foraging in loose association with a Wilson's Warbler. Stayed mostly low in the underbrush but did go up into the trees a few times. Did not respond to I-pod at all.
After a few calls Bob Derting, Lisa Hill and Larry Umthum from Tricities, Larry and Jacque Goodhew from Walla Walla arrived and after much searching they all saw the bird. Bob got some photos. Last seen at 6:40 pm.
Are there any other WA state records for Canada Warbler???
We will be looking for the bird by 7:30 in the morning - will check to see if it stays overnight.
