Hi INWBers & Tweeters
Saturday I came over from Seattle to bird some Lincoln & Spokane
spots mentioned recently on the list. A few notables:

LINCOLN CO:

Davenport Cemetery:
Mostly a flycatcher migration day on Saturday , with OLIVE-SIDED,
W.WOOD-PEWEE, HAMMOND'S [many], WILLOW [one], DUSKY [a couple], &
PACIFIC-SLOPE [1-2].

A few warblers were moving through too, but not in huge numbers. I
had: NASHVILLE, ORANGE-CROWNED, YELLOW, YELLOW-RUMPED, TOWNSEND'S, &
WILSON's.

Great Horned Owl, Western Tanagers & a few Warbling Vireos rounded things out.

Mill Canyon:
PARASITIC JAEGER - one adult was sitting on the sandbars at the mouth
of the canyon. I was determined to watch it to see whether it would
cross into Stevens Co when it flew -- it would have been a county
first over there - but alas it managed to sneak away when I was
distracted.

Only one dowitcher down on the mudflatts there -- boy does it look
like there should be more....

Also present in the canyon on the way down:
Gray Flycatchers - a couple, very cooperative, near the burn area.
Lincoln's Sparrow - migrants were present around eastern WA this weekend.
Pileated Woodpecker - along Green Canyon

SPOKANE CO:
In the afternoon, I birded in Spokane County, with my main
destination being Slavin Ranch -- Nice place! My only grumble was
that I didn't realize the long loop trail isn't a loop [at least as
far as I could tell -- that's a loong back-track!]

SORA - I saw at least 6 wandering the edges --the place was thick
with them! [and 'only' saw one Virginia Rail]

SEMIPALMATED PLOVER - one still present -- seemed to pop up in
several spots, so I began to wonder if there was more than one around.
STILT SANDPIPER - one midway along the pond
SOLITARY SANDPIPER - in the smaller pond
WILSON'S SNIPE - several around the edges
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER & LEAST SANDPIPERS - 2 each
SPOTTED SANDPIPER - 1 or 2
BLUE-WINGED & CINAMON TEAL - several each.

MERLIN - one chased some White-crowned Sparrows, then sat down on a
mudflat for a while, perhaps feeding.

GREAT HORNED OWL - found one on the way out, as it began to get dark.

All in all, a good day --
