Debbie, et al,

I led a tour onto the site on Friday and the once boisterous crowd of over 4,000 birds has dwindled to 200 birds or less. Quite a few chicks are still being fed by adults, but these are very close to fledging and more than likely leaving to head south, soon.
There are, however, several 4 week-olds (6-8) that are really pushing the limits of their stay, especially with today's cool, wet weather. At least two of the Banded-in-Bellingham birds are still on the site and I fear that they will not leave, since most of their "classmates" are long gone.

I will lead another tour on Tuesday morning and participate in a carcass survey in couple of weeks to put a wrap on Bellingham's exciting Caspian Summer of 2010.

After 32 site visits, I'll hear their melodious calls (insert laughter here) throughout the winter!

Joe Meche
Bellingham

I'll be taking my son up to WWU next weekend. I'd love to check out the Caspian
erns - am I too late? Have they all departed?
