Of course I have no association with these companies. But I find this
version of the guide very useful and so might others on Tweeters.

This is the more recent NatGeo field guide in a BIG book format. It
really makes a difference to the illustrations which look more natural
at this size and a bit "over detailed" in the regular paperback field
guide.

Very handy for use at home (you won't be taking this in the field
without a sherpa) for browsing or reading or comparing species or
discussing birds with others. It lies flat on a table so it's easy to
share.

From a post at birdforum.net:

> Walden Books has the National Geographic Illustrated Birds of North
> America for $9.99! This is actually a National Geographic Fifth
> Edition Field Guide blown up to coffee table size. It was published
> at $50. They currently have a 33% off coupon that works at Borders
> or Walden Books.

> Both books are worth owning, especially at these prices. The
> Illustrated Birds is especially nice for home study. These deals
> seem to be in the stores only, not online.
