Rolan Nelson, Adam Trent, and I checked out the chimney on Fort Lewis (now Joint Base Lewis-McChord), PIERCE County, and saw 5000 Swifts twirl and swirl before descending into the chimney at about 5000 Pendleton Road.? This was in noticeable rain.? A Cooper's Hawk perched on the chimney for some time and finally plucked a swift and flew away with it.? A Raven flew through the swirl, but kept going.? A magical experience.
