I have seen the same. A few weeks ago, while traveling through Hoquiam, on the way to OS, I stopped to watch many Starlings- 150 over a 15 square block area- fly catching over homes. Most stayed in the air and slowly flew to and fro, without the the return to perch behavior we usually see with flycatchers. It was the first I had seen this behavior. As Jeff has observed, it was a warm Summer afternoon.

I have observed starlings flycatching in the Yakima area quite regularly.
Seems particularly prevalent on warm summer evenings...so they must be
catching some kind of bugs aloft.
