Hello Tweeters,
Today was one of the good birdying in Nisqually,Shep Thorp was our leader
for the day, many good species was found today .,we had a good count of birds
,Shep is going to write everything up.We had Ann Kahle from Castlerock came
to join the group .and afterwards me and her intend to find some Pierce
County birds for her County list .
But first I had a surprise presented to me by Eric Slagle a Volenteer, and
sometime lead the Group. It was a picture from Bottle Beach done in
Watercolor.Eric Know how much Bottle Beach meant to me and how much Patrick
an I spent time in this place,The print was framed and signed by Eric.I
was so stunt to receive this great Gift ,and I will stand it to Stan
Hamton's Watercolor picture of a Bar-tailed Godwit in Tokeland 2007
Steve contacted Patrick he wanted a Bar-tailed Godwit,we not only found
1Bird but three ,unbelievable.Steve lives in the Bay area, and married
Patrick's Baby-sitter who lived on Titlow beach in Tacoma. I must realy say
that birders are the most considerate people. When you ask a birder if he
attend a Church, the rely are mostly I receive is--I believe in Good our
Creator ,and birdying bring me closer to him when I bird, Our big creator
of all living things on Earth!!
After we Finnish Nisqually Shep ANN & ME joined for a visit to the
Gog-Le -Hi-Tee Wetlands. In the back Pond we had 25 Western Sandpipers, all
juveniles 1 Northern female Pintail, lot's, of young female Mallards and 1
Shoveler duck. The front big Pond where Shep had Dunlin the last time he
visiting was empty,no birds at all.Shep is such nice birder,he over to take
us on his Boat in the Waters around Commencement Bay where we all saw the
Black-tailed Gull last fall.We had several Brandt's Cormorant, many Black
Turnstone on the Log,Nice of assorted Species of Gulls we saw.(Shep is an
expert on Gulls ) The difference between a Western and the Glaucous winged
xWestern hybrid, the good looks of Thayer's Gulls,The ID of different years
of the California Gulls,The 2 smaller Gulls the Ringed -billed Gull and the
smaller Mew Gulls. It was a refresher lesson for me.
We should had more time to seeing the many Bonaparte's Gull on the mouth of
the river feeding.
It was a great day for me ,and hope Ann added few more species to her Pierce
County List,

Cheers Ruth Sullivan
