At Discovery Park this morning, I walked from the visitor center to the
lighthouse and back before the rain settled in. Here's the best of what I
saw: A lone Sanderling on the beach at the actual point (ID'd by a helpful
passing birder), 2 American Pipits working the wrack along the west beach,
an Osprey, a Rhinocerous Auklet, 3 Red-necked Grebes, a few Heermann's
Gulls, and plenty of Yellow-rumped Warblers. Marine Mammals: 3 River Otters
tearing apart a Rockfish on the beach, a Sea Lion out by the green buoy, and
a few Harbor Seals popping up their shiny heads. Mary Bond, Seattle
