Hello, tweeters.

August and most of September were just about devoid of migrants in our yard this year.

On 9/20/2010, I saw the first Dark-eyed Junco of the fall, a single bird. A Western Tanager was at the fountain.

On 9/21, two Golden-crowned Kinglets and two Orange-crowned Warblers (one of the breeding lutescens, the other of the migrating celata) bathing together at the fountain, as well as a junco.

On 9/22, a White-throated Sparrow, a Golden-crowned Sparrow feeding on millet under a feeder, first in the fall for both of these.

This morning (9/24) there were two Golden-crowned Kinglets, two Ruby-crowned Kinglets, and a Townsend's Warbler at the fountain.

I seems predictable that when one bird comes to the fountain, others will follow. The same happens at the feeders. The yard can be empty, and all of a sudden there is a burst of activity, as if the presence of one bird makes it a safe place to be, and all of them become active. Of course I'm sure I miss many birds, as I'm not looking out the window all the time, but as soon as I see any activity, I watch for at least a little while.
