Hi Tweeters,
Birds certainly seemed to be on the move today (9/24/10). I started at the
Port of Kalama North Property by walking the river side of the dredge spoils
and had numerous AMERICAN PIPETS and 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS touch down briefly
before continuing to the south. Later in the willows along the slough there
was a mixed flock containing WARBLING VIREO and 6 warbler species:
NASHVILLE, ORANGE-CROWNED, YELLOW-RUMPED, BLACK-THROATED GRAY, COMMON
YELLOWTHROAT and WILSON'S. After lunch there were 3 SANDHILL CRANES over the
Woodland Bottoms as well as more mixed species migrant flocks. I finished
the day up around Merrill Lake and the 8100 Road with lots of AMERICAN
ROBINS and VARIED THRUSHES with the grand finale being a RUFFED GROUSE
giving great looks as it stood beside the road. A wonderful day in the
neighborhood for a birder.
