In advance of Ken Knittle's WOS trip today (Saturday) around Takhlakh Lake at the 4,500 foot level of Mt. Adams in Skamania County, several of us joined him for a little owling last night. We lucked out with one Boreal Owl (skiew call) and some silhouetted fly-bys near the Takhlakh campground. But the little owl became silent and invisible when a Barred Owl made its presence known by landing in the top of a nearby tree to "serenade" us in the soft bright light of the full moon. Very cool all the way around.

Hi all,

It is late, but I wanted to send out a quick report on my trip up to Salmo Mountain in NE Pend Oreille County today.

Terry Little, two other birders, and I saw and heard 2 Boreal Owls at the Salmo area tonight at about 8:00pm. Thanks Terry!

Also, on my way down FR 270 from the top of Salmo, I chanced upon a female Spruce Grouse in the road.

Both were life birds for me! I spent about 8 hours up there and had a few other good birds including: Bohemian Waxwing (one flyover), Townsend's Solitaire, Hermit Thrush, American Pipit, Gray Jay, Steller's Jay, White-crowned Sparrow, and Pacific Wren.
