Dark-eyed Juncos are common year-round residents in western WA (Birds of Washington , p. 338).? My experience (800 ft. elevation, Snoqualmie) is that there are typically higher numbers (sometimes much higher numbers) in the winter, probably due to some downslope movement of birds that spend the summer at higher elevations.? I would venture a guess that those who do not see the juncos in the summer are in more urban locations which get some of the winter birds but for whatever combination of location and available habitat don't see them in the summer months.? They are definitely around, however.
