I have enjoyed this discussion, understand that there is more than one way to skin a c at or spell Gray Owl and will continue with Caps.


I also have concluded that given 20 or so e-mails regarding considerations and options for name capitalization, we have had too many and continuous rainy, low light days for far too long this Fall and Winter and really need the migration to occur as soon as possible to bring us back into the field.

At one time it was recommended that all bird names in TWEETERS postings be done in all-caps, like I just did with Tweeters. It makes it easier for a person to scan a message for species of interest.

I'm also an editor (of medical journal articles), so maybe this point will help: capitalized names are easier to attract the attention of the reader.

I find that capitalized bird names stand out better against the background print, and if an article mentions a bird I'm interested in then I'm more likely to want to read the full article.
