The onramp to northbound 405 from the Bothell Everett highway at northbound 228th SE circles around a retention pond. There are usually a few assorted waterfowl hanging out and even some unlucky little chicks in the spring surrounded only by freeway. Today, I noticed a nest, possibly a hanging nest on a shrub poking out of the water on the south side of the pond. One cannot stop here and my birding skills are not such that I could ID this nest at a glance. Has anyone else noticed this nest and what species it might belong to?
Also, is anyone else concerned about the number of these retention ponds and the offspring hatching in them? I don't see how any of them could possibly survive. What? Just ducks, you say?
