Greetings all from the Burke Museum. I wanted to let you know about two great events coming up in the next few weeks.

Event Number 1: Birds at the Burke - April 17 , 2011
Enjoy a day dedicated to birds and birding with talks and tours by professionals- On Sun., April 17, 10am ? 3pm, the Burke Museum will present a day devoted to the birds of Washington State. This new event complements the exhibit The Owl and the Woodpecker and is presented by Seattle Audubon, Puget Sound Bird Observatory, Audubon Washington, and the Ornithology division of the Burke Museum.

Talks include:
? An Introduction to Birding a - 10:30 am with Adam Sedgley
? Urban Birds in Urban Habitat a - 11:30 am with Matthew Mega
? Citizen Scientists: Why birding matters in the 21st century ? 12:30 am with Dan Froehlich
? Birding Trails in Washington - 1:30 pm with Christi Norman
Burke Museum 206-543-5590. Located at the north entrance of UW Campus, Seattle. This event is included with museum admission. Parking on the UW campus is free on Sundays.

Event Number 2: Environmental Writers Workshop - April 23, 2011
For the third year in a row, the Burke Museum brings together a trio of outstanding writers to present a one-day workshop on writing about the environment. Award-winning authors Bruce Barcott, Langdon Cook, and Carol Yoon will lead classroom and field-based sessions, all taking place at the Center for Urban Horticulture, on the shore of Union Bay. They bring years of experience as writers, journalists, bloggers, and teachers. Each is an attentive observer who weaves together history, science, and field time into well-crafted, thought-provoking writing about the natural and cultural world.

Class runs from 9am to 5pm.

Class fee is $100, which includes lunch; Burke members receive a 10% discount. Scholarships are available for students. To register, please email burked at uw.edu or call (206) 543-5591.
