Window strikes are deadly. Research has shown that approx. 50% of all unintentional window strikes either kill on impact, or cause injuries or delayed reflexes that result in deaths.

So while the imprint on the window is impressive, it was probably injurious to the hawk. Since this is the second time that a hawk has hit that window, for the sake of the birds it would be good to put something on the outside of the glass to make the glass barrier visible to birds.

I write a weekly column in the Shoreline Area News, and it just so happens that I wrote about window strikes this week. By many accounts this is the second highest cause of avian deaths--the first being removal of habitat.
