Hi Tweeters:
At low tide today, about 2:15pm we were standing just south of Des Moines in the sun. There was no wind. 12 Bonaparte's Gulls were perched on the beach at the water's edge. 11 of those had black heads. These birds do seem to like the calm weather, as I had only seen 2 this week during the winds and storms. Awhile later I started seeing Bonaparte's to the south of the S 239 St (Des Moines) overlook and more out in the middle from Redondo. I counted about 60 at one point along a long tide rip. A few drifted north toward Des Moines marina but were still far out in the channel.
There are still about 130 black Brant just south of the Des Moines marina.
Yours, Carol Schulz
Des Moines
