Hey tweets, the Common Teal was still present at the Fill yesterday,
much to my surprise. I haven't seen the little guy in ages. But there
he was early yesterday morning, fast asleep in SW Pond, sporting his
breeding plumage in all its glory. Personally, I cannot understand why
the local femmes are not falling all over him, he is so attractive.
But as best as I can tell, he is all alone. Maybe the AOU should re-
think its policy of lumping American and Eurasian Green-winged Teals?

Also present at the Fill yesterday were FOY BARN SWALLOWS. It was
great to see a small flock of these spring-bringers at last. I saw
them in the early morning, when it was 39 degrees out, so I had to
take their word for it that spring has arrived. Of course, by the
afternoon, all the college kids were walking around in shorts, so I
guess we changed from one season to the next in 4 hours.

A Eurasian Wigeon was showing off his chestnut head in the bright
light yesterday over the lake, and everyone - including me - seemed
happy that the dimness was gone.

Good numbers of Savannah Sparrows arrived yesterday too, although
individuals have been here since March 19. We had a fantastic breeding
year last year - so many Savannahs that they actually were fighting
over territory. Always in the past, there has been plenty of territory
to go around, so fighting was kept to a minimum. Given the arrivals of
yesterday, I'm hoping we'll have another banner year of breeding. -
