An afternoon visit to the Montlake Fill yielded 40 species today, including
three warbler species:? ?countless butterbutts of both races, many singing, an
Orange-crowned Warbler in Yesler Swamp, and a pair of Common Yellowthroats at
the southwestern junction of the loop trail and Wahkiakum Lane.? Another dapper
male Yellowthroat was singing nonstop ?near the edge of the southwest pond.?
Tried and failed to find the Loggerhead Shrike that Connie had written on the
board this morning.
More signs of spring included dwindling winter ducks?though the Common Teal was
still present, ?upending itself for some morsels on the bottom of Shoveler?s
Pond---, the arrival of more spring-y ducks, like the bright Cinnamon Teal on
the main pond, the much-missed song of Savannah Sparrow,? and Black-capped
Chickadees cleaning out a nest hole.
