Hi Tweeters,

About 4:30 this afternoon (4/12/11) as I was driving up from Coldwater Lake
toward the now unused visitor center, I pulled over when 4 eagles came off
the ground and began to gain altitude while interacting. The 3 BALD EAGLES
(2 adults-1 subadult) seemed to be ganging up on the adult GOLDEN EAGLE.
After gaining more altitude the Bald Eagles disappeared to the north and the
Golden Eagle was last seen heading west. All 3 of my personal records of
Golden Eagle in the county are east of Hoffstadt Bluff on SR504 in March or
April.

Coldwater Lake had a male SURF SCOTER and I returned home to a voice mail
from John Green that there's been a SURF SCOTER near the 20th Ave. bridge at
Lake Sacajawea in Longview today; and we thought that was a tough bird in
this county. I've lost track of the number of reports since October. I found
NO Barrows Goldeneye at Coldwater Lake or the Hummock's Trail where they
frequent this time of year.

This morning at the Port of Kalama heronry I counted 22 GREAT EGRETS either
on nests or perched nearby, plus 3 seen from I-5 in the pond just north of
Kalama. Their presence at this breeding site continues to grow each year.
There also were at least 75 BAND-TAILED PIGEONS near the grain elevator
making their annual spring stop.
