The other day I put up a junco photo that I commented had different coloring. I called it an Oregon subspecies of the Dark-eyed Junco until it was pointed out to me yesterday that it was a hybrid of Slate-colored and Oregon subspecies known as Cassiar?s Junco. I should have recognized that. Looking through my photos I have some of that kind from the yard previously. I wasn?t aware of the Cassiar?s title though. (thanks Marv)

In the yard yesterday I had another junco type, this one a Slate-colored Junco. In working on the photos I got to wondering how many variations of junco there are so I Googled a bit and downloaded a Clements bird checklist. There are a few varieties!

That caused a bit of musing and I have posted some with a SCJU photo at the first link below. The second link is to pbase where all the photos from yesterday can be seen.
