Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday April 14. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On April 8 a TUFTED DUCK was at Fern Ridge Reservoir. Male COSTA?S
HUMMINGBIRDS were reported April 9 in SW Portland?s Washington Park, and on
April 12 at an Eugene feeder.

Migration during the week brought many sparrows including CHIPPING SPARROWS,
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, and FOX SPARROWS. Good numbers of ORANGE-CROWNED
WARBLERS, BLACK-THROATED WARBLERS, and CASSIN?S VIREOS were reported. On
April 11 a heavy PACIFIC LOON movement was seen along the coast. Shorebird
numbers are also increasing. PURPLE MARTINS are now moving into Western
Oregon

On April 7 two BROWN PELICANS were at Seal Rocks State Park. A LAPLAND
LONGSPUR was seen April 10 at Roads End State Park near Lincoln City.

A SHORT-EARED OWL was at the Portland Airport April 13. On April 12 two
MARBLED GODWITS and a SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER were at the Koll Wetlands in
Beaverton. A bright SWAMP SPARROW was at the Fernhill Wetlands in Forest
Grove April 12. A calling HAMMOND?S FLYCATCHER was heard April 13 at Mt.
Pisgah near Eugene. On April 11 a flock of 10 calling breeding plumaged
COMMON LOONS were on Dorena Reservoir near Cottage Grove. A CASPIAN TERN was
there that day also.

On April 12 the first CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD was seen near Sisters. On April 9
a male RED-BREASTED MERGANSER was at Hatfield Lake near Bend.
