Today (Sunday) just before noon, a friend and I enjoyed seeing a pair of Harlequin Ducks standing on a little rock only a yard or so past the waterline, just a bit north of the Shell Creek point. The tide was out a ways and we were walking further up the beach so as not to disturb the Black Brants, etc., and so we had a nice long look. A female Goldeneye came up to try and claim the little rock, and the female Harlequin slipped into the water, but the male held his ground and she desisted. A real treat, with the sun shining and highlighting the lovely coloration. I know others have reported them here in Edmonds, but it was my first sighting for this area.
