Sadly, it seems that only a few months ago there was athread about big lens photographers and now we start again. First, let me sayI?ve been a birder for over 40 years and big lens bird photographer for muchless. I have known a few rude photographers and a few rude birders and don?tlike either very much. I also don?t like rude dog owners who purposefullyrelease their animals to run after birds. In fact, I really don?t like rudepeople of any sort. Most of us don?t. The truth is that the vast majority ofbirders, bird photographers and dog owners are nice people who are fair andconsiderate of those around them, and it is never right to assume that if oneis rude they all are.

That having been said, I have felt since reading theprevious thread about &)^$%#^ lens photographers that there is room forimprovement that needs to be considered and understood better by those of uswho photograph birds. In that regard, a few of us have started exporing thepossibility of a bird photography symposium some time in the fall that willinclude as one of its topics a discussion on how photographers should comportthemselves around birds and birders with an eye toward eliminating as many ofthese conflicts as possible while still allowing us to continue our hobbies orprofessions and maintain a unified front for the protection of birds and theirhabitat.

It is our hope that the symposium will encourage broadparticipation and include lots of information on other topics of interest toall levels of bird photographers. We did not expect to make this informationpublic until we were a bit further down the road, but in light of theappearance of this thread again, I felt it was important to let the communityknow that plans are in the works to publicly explore some of these conflicts sothat maybe the need to rehash this on Tweeters would be reduced for now. I?llbe happy to consider any thoughts you might have on this symposium and comeback with more specific information when the plans are closer to fruition.
