Hi, Tweets

I just received my newsletter from The Endangered Wildlife Trust in
South Africa and the article below I found quite interesting
considering that we see so few of our own kestrels. The numbers are
mind-boggling.

The largest roost this season is in Newcastle again, with a total of
20,150 falcons (about 19,000 Amur Falcons and the rest Lesser
Kestrels). The largest Lesser Kestrel roost is in De Aar at 13,200
birds. The most Redfooted Falconswere counted at the Ventersdorp roost. If
average roost size is a good indicator of the population status, this
year is looking good with an average of 5,000 falcons per roost, in
comparison with 4,500 falcons per roost in the last year. Based on
these averages, the population has been steadily increasing over the last
five years and is back to the same roost sizes as the early 2000 counts.
