Stopped by Sportco Ponds for about twenty minutes this afternoon at
4:20. In near-sideways rain I watched from across the street in the
warmth and dryness of my pickup as several dozen swallows skimmed the
surface of the ponds, periodically ventured too high, and got blown from
one pond to the other. There were Barn and Violet-green Swallows
present, and possibly Tree and/or Cliff as well. Conditions were such
that I could not get good looks at all individuals. In addition there
were four Canada Geese, three Mallards, a pair of Green-winged Teals,
three European Starlings, and a lone gull. It was a juvenile and most
likely a Glaucous-winged. I did not venture out of my vehicle as I was
not dressed for the occasion!
