Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday April 28. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
503-233-3976.

On April 23 a MAGNIFICENT FRIGATEBIRD was seen at Coos Bay. A bright male
VERMILION FLYCATCHER was photographed at the Vanport Wetlands in North
Portland April 27. Neither bird was relocated. A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was
seen during the week near Bend.

Heavy migrations during the week brought most of the expected species. Along
the coast BROWN PELICANS, RED and RED-NECKED PHALAROPES and BONAPARTE?S
GULLS swarmed northward along with PACIFIC and RED-THROATED LOONS.

On April 21 a MANX-TYPE SHEARWATER and a HORNED PUFFIN passed Boiler Bay. A
PALM WARBLER and a MOCKINGBIRD were on the North Spit of Coos Bay April 23.
Another MOCKER was at Yachats April 24.

On April 25 a SABINE?S GULL was at the Philomath Sewage Ponds. Another was
seen that day at the Denman Wildlife Area near Medford. Also on April 25 a
BLACK TURNSTONE was at the Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove. A SOLITARY
SANDPIPER was at Peoria near Corvallis April 22. A male CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD
was in Eugene during the week. On April 20 a MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE was on
Skinner?s Butte in Eugene. A flock of about 300 WHITE-FACED IBIS passed over
the Medford Airport April 26. Nearby a GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE was seen April
25.

On April 22 a SWAINSON?S THRUSH was reported in Redmond. At Houston Lake
near Powell Butte April 23 were a BLACK-NECKED STILT and two AVOCENTS.

That?s it for this week.
