Subject: [Tweeters] Tailless Steller's jay in West Seattle?

I swear that I saw a Steller's jay that was entirely missing its tail flying
quite successfully this evening. Is such a thing possible? It had a Steller's
jay head and crest and a Steller's jay flight pattern and it seemed like it was
Steller's jay blue (though it was backlit) but its body was truncated--sort of
rounded where a tail should have been. Can Steller's jays survive / fly without
tails? Or is there a tailless sub-species?
