Though the quantity of birds in Malheur is way down from historic levels of twenty years ago there's still plenty to see even dodging a few snow showers. Everything is a bit late this year but now seems to be the time to start. Thousands of White-faced Ibis in the ponds with hundreds of Yellow-headed Blackbirds around the visitor center. Also around the center are Kinglets(both), Yellow-rumped, Yellow, Wilson's, McGillavrey's Warblers, Black-crowned Sparrows, Juncos, Sandhill Cranes, Red-tailed Hawks (light colored) on a nest, three species of swallows(Cliff, Tree and N. Rough-winged) and lots of ducks (Cinnamon Teal, Gadwall, Scaup, Ring Necks, etc) along with Willet, Sora Rails and snipe. Will try for the Greater Sage Grouse lek tomorrow morning if our alarm works and hope for the best.
