This morning at 6:40 I found some parking on the south side of NE 124th
Street near the Sammamish River bridge between Woodinville and Redmond.
This time in the near puddle NE of the NE 124th St. bridge there were about
100 small shorebirds with just a few Mallards, Green-winged Teal, and Canada
Goose. The shorebirds came in 2 sizes and the small ones had yellowish legs
(visible with scope) so I estimated 80 WESTERN SANDPIPER and 20 LEAST
SANDPIPER. (Counts are rough because of distance and spontaneous
flushing.) I also walked quarter mile north on the trail to the far puddle
where and found 8 more Western Sandpipers. These puddles are drying up fast
and I did not find any Yellowlegs or black-bellied Dunlin as I did on
Tuesday, or Pipits as reported to me by another birder privately. The only
other shorebird I found was a single KILLDEER. However in the wet fields
on the NW side of the bridge there were about 50 Glaucous-winged, 20
Ring-billed, and 10 California Gulls as well as more ducks. Hopefully I
will find more shorebirds at Westport and Grays Harbor this weekend.
