Hey tweets, Spring is still trying its best to spring, having mixed
results. All the humans except the college kids were still bundled up
in winter layers, but shorts were the order of the day for the kids.
Oh to be young.

Still not warblers to be seen except for hordes of Yellow-rumps (both
kinds) and numerous Common Yellowthroats in full voice. A lone Golden-
crowned Sparrow was on the chip pile near Corporation Yard, and a Fox
Sparrow yesterday at the Reading Rocks were welcome hangers-on. We're
going to have another bumper crop of Savannah Sparrow breeders this
year, which is highly gratifying.

No shorebirds as yet, except for Wilson's Snipes and Killdeer, so
maybe we are continuing our long decline of these birds. The mud is
looking okay - I would give it a C-minus - but has not yet attracted
anyone except ducks.

Best birds of the day: FOY Vaux's Swift, and (best of all) a RED-
NECKED GREBE in breeding plumage, paddling and fishing near Canoe
Island. Red-Necked Grebes are rare at the Fill in winter, and I have
never seen one here in breeding plumage before. What a great-looking
bird.

I think a big advantage about birding one beloved area extensively
(and otherwise giving a pretty good simulation of a bump on a log) is
that you can fully appreciate a bird that is common elsewhere but rare
here. Makes you stop and really look. - Connie, Seattle
