We live in Medina on NE 12th Street a few doors east of Evergreen Point Road, and have heard/seen Olive-sided Flycatchers in the neighborhood regularly since the late 1980s. They may have been here earlier than that but we were not paying attention then. They usually return in the first part of May but this year they were 3-4 weeks late. One was singing from the top of a western redcedar in the yard west of ours on Saturday. In some years there have been at least three singing birds in the area, but I can only vouch for one most years (including this one). We have no incontrovertible proof of nesting success but have noted two or three birds interacting late in the season (about now, usually), at the time when the pip-pip-pip calling begins. The Medina post office, on Evergreen Point Road (76th Avenue NE) just north of NE 8th Street, is a pretty reliable place to hear/spot one on a warm summer day.

All of the birds we have observed were in a several-square-block area much the same as Sharon described, between Overlake Drive W (NE 6th Street) on the south, NE 14th Street on the north, Lake Washington on the west, and the Overlake Golf and Country Club/Medina Park/Medina Elementary School on the east.

Could thus flycatcher be nesting in Medina? Recently got an email from a birder who lives just south of this neighborhood who reports hearing an Olive-sided Flycatcher since it migeated in and currently has seen it perched as well as flying into and out of the upper canopy of a large conifer. Nesting? Your thoughts?
