This is a belated report about our past Sunday's trip. With a full boat of birders and the good weather, we had a wonderful day of good looks at most of the pelagic birds and mammals. No unusual or rare birds this time but the numbers of birds seemed high. For the complete list and the recorded numbers, visit our website at www.westportseabirds.com in a few days.
Good numbers of Black-footed Albatross, close to 9,000 Sooty Shearwaters, Pink-footed Shearwaters, big numbers of Fork-tailed Storm Petrels, lots of Leach's Storm Petrels at our chum spot, Northern Fulmars everywhere, many Red and Red-necked Phalaropes, all three species of jaegers plus several South Polar Skuas gave us the jaegers slam, very close looks at Cassin's Auklets and Tufted Puffins were the main highlights of our trip.
Good looks at Humpback Whales were enjoyed by everyone.
Leaders on the trip were Bill Shelmerdine, Scott Mills and myself.
