Amid all of the twittering of young chickadees and nuthatches and
juncos yesterday, all of a sudden the clear call of an olive-sided
flycatcher pierced the air. First I've heard in the neighborhood all
summer so I imagine he was heading south. I never mistake the call,
it was the one bird I missed on a test in an ornithology class many
years ago. Why I missed such a distinctive call I'll never know.

Regarding the "etc" in the subject line, I've had two reports of
groups of turkey vultures presumably heading south. While you're
watching all of those neat shorebirds, look up once in a while -
vultures are neat to watch, too.
