Tweets, Lots of woodland migrants and post-nesting birds around, great fun!
Fri 7pm (a very warm, windless evening) I saw 4 C NIGHTHAWKS foraging with
hundreds of swallows, assumedly migrating, over Rocky Prairie on the E side
of Old Hwy 99 just S of Waldrick Rd. This is the largest number of
nighthawks I recall seeing together on the westside. Mon 7am I heard one
RED-EYED VIREO half-singing in the "usual" spot just E of Tenino, but by
7:45am two were revved up in full voice and a third half-singing. I don't
have records whether this is "late" for singing (on territory I assume). I
also saw a Swainson's Thrush feeding a fledgling, and a Willow Flycatcher
feeding a young bird at what may have been a nest -- couldn't quite see. 57
species locally in a couple delightful hours. Good birding!
