Two pairs of Marbled Murrlets were in the Rosario Strait west of Lummi Island on August 15.? Have not seen Murrelets around here since January - but they were very regular last fall, from September through December.? A handful of Common Murres also showed up.? Rhinocereous Auklets are becoming scarce - just saw two yesterday, while they were so common and numerous back in July.? But with a pair of Guillemots, that does make four Alcid species along the west shore of Lummi lately, although none of them numerous at all. It is very hit or miss - they musty follow the fish. Other birds - mostly GW Gulls, with a very light sprinkling of Pelagic Cormorants, Common Loons, and grumpy Herons on the beach.? Once in awhile a California Gull or Caspian Tern wanders through.
