Hello tweeters,
I visiting some friends in the Steilacoom area,so I travel the backroad on
Chambers Creek. This where I birdied when I start birdying in 1985,taken some
bird classes from Ken Brown.I used to going there every day to get more used
to the area and the same birds.I was thinking about the old times ,coming
home to tell my Son Patrick what I saw,who than corrected me,since this
species could not be seeing there.but this where so exited even seeing some
common ducks like the Mallards .My first stop was on the fish ladder where
some exposed mudflats with a big group of peeps flew in about 35 Shorebirds
there where mostly all Least Sandpipers with 3 birds are Western .Direct
above was sitting an Adult Bald eagle who lifted his wings and start flying
off There also was 1 Kingfisher across the water and 2 Spotted
Sandpiper, with a group of the Mallard Ducks.I drove along the water and also
saw some groups of Canada Geese .I made a quick stop at the Chambers bay
Park where there was a big Picnic,Lot's of dogs, but this place people kept
all Dogs on a leach, what I found so unusual for a park!!!! There was non
birds in the bay.I remember we used to going there in the winter and this
place was great for seeing lot's of Grebes Auklet's and Gulls.
On the way home I stopped at the Chambers Creek Golf Course. It is a huge
place partly a park where you can hike, with lot's of Trees and Shrubs with
small little pond s.The birds loved this area. There was a huge group of 40
to 50 Goldfinches feeding on the distal also Junco and Finches. There was
lot's of people who laid on the grass under a tree. The Golf course is
probable very hard to play .there not using any carts but having to carry
there bag ore hiring a caddy. It looks like all hills up with a lot of
sand.I use to playing Golf but this Course I probable would avoid to play.
I will check this area out again ,and I needed more time since I did not
going up to the view of the bay, this place is huge needing a lot of time.
