A neighbor called me to say he had a Painted bunting at his feeder this evening (8/23) for about 2 minutes at 7:10 pm. He didn't see where it went, but I'll sure be looking around tomorrow!
?
On a separate note, I have had Vaux swifts nest in my chimney a number of times over the past few years. This year I despaired early when I only saw one adult foraging and heard one one apparent faint cheep, but in time the noise level grew and I saw several adults in and out regularly. Nearly two weeks ago I saw a family group of 5 out "flight training" and had the usual one "wrong-way?Corrigan" come down?the other chimney into the stove. I've come to expect thins as a yearly occurrence, so the stove was well vacuumed and the soft netting for capture and release on hand.
?
But the cheeping and feeding activity continued and late last week I saw what I believe was a second group out training and had a second "stove recovery" to perform. That night I still heard faint cheepong- one last straggler or some hiding from the rainy weather? Today? all is quiet, so I think they've moved out for the year. Sure wish I had a periscope so I?could see up my chimney to see how many nests there were.??
