Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird report. This report
was made Thursday August 26. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

A possible KITTLITZ?S MURRELET was seen August 20 flying off Tierra del Mar
north of Pacific City. The New River RED NECKED STINT continues to be seen.
On August 22 a male REDSTART was at Prospect in the Rogue Valley. A RUFF was
at Fern Ridge Reservoir during the week.

Fall migrations are now picking up with warblers and other small birds
moving about in flocks. An early morning migration of SWAINSON?S THRUSHES
was recorded in Southwest Portland August 24. Large numbers of SOOTY
SHEARWATERS and RED-NECKED PHALAROPES are now passing over the ocean just
offshore. On August 19 large numbers of phalaropes were in lower Yaquina
Bay. Among a large feeding flock off Lone Ranch State Park north of
Brookings August 20 were many HEERMANN?S GULLS and ELEGANT TERNS, along with
a few SABINE?S GULLS.

On August 18 a BLACK PHOEBE was off the end of Rentenaar Road on Sauvie
Island. A COMMON TERN and a BANK SWALLOW were over the south end of Sturgeon
Lake August 20. A group of 11 SANDHILL CRANES were on the Island August 23.
The North Portland SANDERLING on Broughton Beach continues to be seen.

Among the swarms of shorebirds at Fern Ridge Reservoir August 18 were 11
MARBLED GODWITS, four SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, A PECTORAL SANDPIPER and six
BLACK TERNS.

That?s it for this week.
