Yesterday I walked north from the Edmonds ferry?dock to the?Shell Creek spit in the hopes of finding a few Caspian terns among the gulls gathered at the spit.? I noticed that?the large flock of crows which also hangs out at the spit was very?upset and kept flying?around.?? Sometimes this indicates the presence of one of the resident eagles?in the tall firs along Shell Creek east of the spit.

The crows did not appear to be mobbing an eagle or a hawk, but they?remained quite vocal and kept flying from tree to tree.??? The object of their concern became apparent when a juvenile peregrine falcon took off after one of?the crows.?? No kill was made, but it was good to see that one?raptor will not take any gufff from the evil minions of the Dark Lord.

I ran into Dennis Duffy who had walked farther north than I and was returning south.?? He said that the falcon had chased the crow in the air around a tidal pond?just north of the spot.?? We could see the falcon soaring high overhead as we walked back south towards the fery dock.? Last year I photographed a juvie peregrine beach combing at the same location below Sunset Ave.??
