Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report

An offshore boat trip out of Coos Bay during the week found four XANTUS?S
MURRELETS, a MANX SHEARWATER, and a HAWAIIAN PETREL. The New River
RED-NECKED STINT continues to be seen.

The annual fall gathering of BARN SWALLOWS in corn fields south of Dayton is
now beginning. Many thousands will be involved. Large numbers of PINTAILS
and WHITE-FRONTED GEESE are now arriving. Very large numbers of ELEGANT
TERNS are now being seen along the coast in the Gold Beach area. On August
31, 475 CASSIN?S AUKLETS were seen off Lincoln City.

On August 29 a STILT SANDPIPER was near Flores Lake. An offshore boat trip
out of Coos Bay August 27 found a SOUTH POLAR SKUA, and some SABINE?S GULLS.
Five COMMON TERNS were at the Necanicum River mouth in Seaside August 27

A COMMON TERN was on Sauvie Island August 28. Up to 67 WOOD DUCKS were at
Smith/Bybee Lakes in North Portland August 30. A flock of STILT SANDPIPERS
was at the Fernhill Wetlands August 27 but did not remain. A SABINE?S GULL
was at Olallie Lake in the Marion County Cascades August 25.

Among the high numbers of shorebirds at Fern Ridge Reservoir during the week
were an AVOCET, a flock of MARBLED GODWITS, a PECTORAL SANDPIPER, up to six
STILT SANDPIPERS, two RUFFS, and a flock of SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS.

That?s it for this week.
