Heather Roskelley and I went to Damon Point this morning and had an awesome
time visiting with 6 to 7 Snowy Owls at the far end of the Point. I was
able to have six of them in view at one time, but there appears to be a
seventh one out there. Back at the parking area, I was talking to Gregg
Thompson and Ruth Sullivan, when I noticed a bird flycatching from a bare
bush at the corner of the campground. When I walked over there, I had a
brief glimpse of a small blue-gray bird with a long tail. I also caught a
white eye ring. It moved around and did not respond to pishing. Finally it
flew across the street over our cars and I had a good look at it, tail and
all. A *BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER *indeed! I am quite familiar with it, from my
days in Maryland. Heather did manage to get a photo of it. After the others
left, I did get another good look at it in the brush behind the parking
area.
It was located right across from the -Do Not Enter- barricade at the
entrance of the former road to Damon Point. Initially it was seen in the
brush at the left side of the road, at the Silver King Campground.
